Foundations News, October 30 - November 5

Hey everyone! Read on for some important Sunday School news....

 

SOCIAL:

Our Fall social is this Sunday evening, and we are excited that Bill and Martha Boyd and Danny and Emily Giffen will be joining us. BBQ Supper at the Williamson's, 608 Euclid Avenue from 5 -7 p.m .  If you have not already sent in your check to Kelli, please do so by tomorrow, November 3. $8 per person to Kelli Threadcraft, mailed to 1991 Ves Trace Circle 35216.  Nursery drop-off is available at the church with a $10 donation per family. Reservations can be made by emailing Laura Tucker at lauraptucker@gmail.com.

NEW MEMBERS, THE BARBERS AND SEGRESTS:

Please welcome Henry and Mandy Barber who moved here in July from Jackson, Mississippi.  They have a girl and a boy, Hayen (4) and Henry (2). Hudson and Shelby Segrest are also from Jackson where they were members of First Presbyterian Church.  Hudson is an Interventional Cardiologist with Heart South Cardiovascular Group in Alabaster and Shelby stays home with their children, Ella (6) and James (3).  Ella is in Kindergarten at The Westminster School and James is in preschool at The Treehouse ELC. 

 

PRAYER:

Elliot Williams - ovarian cancer, traveling to MD Anderson this week after CT scans revealed the cancer has spread to liver and lungs

Mary Stegall - Sarah Squires' mother battling breast cancer

Sherry Zorn - Alan Spooner's mother who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer

MISSIONS: Saturday, November 19th we will again come alongside Christian Service Mission and deliver Thanksgiving Baskets of Kindness to those our local missionaries minister to as well as tornado victims.  Saturday night we will have a church wide dinner honoring our home missionaries.  Sunday morning (11/20)John Croyle with the Big Oak Ranch will be our Guest Speaker and we will have our home missionaries sharing in the Sunday School Classes.  Covenant members will then host our missionaries for Sunday lunch.  There are only three weeks left and the church has received funding to cover 53 of the 300 baskets.  OUR GOAL AS A CLASS IS 10 BASKETS at $25 each! The Taylors will be collecting money in the next couple of weeks. Please contact our class Missions and Outreach coordinators, Katherine and Roddy Taylor, with any questions or if you would like to donate to our class goal.  

CHURCH ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Christmas in the City
Again this year we are partnering with Mission Birmingham in providing Christmas gifts for inner city children and families.  Stop by the display in the church foyer today to pick up an instruction packet with a child’s name and “wish list” items.  Gifts must be dropped off no later than November 20 under the Christmas trees located in the Sanctuary foyer and 1st and 2nd floor lobbies of the Children’s Building.

Wednesday Night Activities

Wed Worship Service this Wednesday will be at 6:30 p.m. Rev. Danny Giffen will be teaching on the Ninth Commandment from Exodus 20:16.   Fellowship Dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. 

One Day, One Voice, One Purpose - Orphan and Adoption Sunday – November 6

This will be one of the most exciting events of our church year – you will not want to miss it!  Join us for morning worship at 8:30 and 11:00 a.m. followed by a church-wide lunch at 12:15 p.m. in Fellowship Hall ($6 per person).

First Monday Lunch Bunch – November 7

Ladies, please make plans to join us on Monday, November 7 at 11:45 a.m. in E206 for lunch and relaxed and informal fellowship.  Our guest speaker for November will be Roxanne Given.  Lunch is $6 and childcare for ages 5 and under is available.  No lunch reservations necessary.

Annual Student Ministries Chili Cook-Off – November 10

Let the competition begin – Wednesday, November 10.  This year’s event will take place in the parking area just outside our newly renovated youth space (1st floor/Education Building).  Watch for more details but make plans now to be present.  Everyone is invited.

Hanging of the Green – November 29 and 30!We need all helping hands beginning November 29 (10 a.m. – 3 p.m.) to decorate our church for Christmas.  Please bring all greenery and we will begin our decorating in the Sanctuary.  On November 30 (10:30 a.m. – 3 p.m.) we will decorate the outside of our buildings.  Please bring clippers, willing hands and new ideas
