Hello Foundations,
There are a lot of exciting things happening in our class and we hope that you have the opportunity to read the important information highlighted in this newsletter!
First, click on the link below to access the information that our teacher, John Halsey Wood has requested we read in preparation for the lesson this Sunday in class. A few things for folks to note: These are two short readings, but you may need to read them twice. The first one, the Epistle to Diognetus, is not difficult to understand but requires alot by way of imagination. The second, from Irenaeus, is murkier and requires a second reading to understand the basic content. Fortunately, it is only two pages.
Foundations Women's Small Group:
All ladies are welcome to join us meeting the first Friday of every month from 9:45 - 11:00 for a time of fellowship, discussion, and prayer for one another (although in October, we will actually meet on the 2nd Friday which is October 12!). We will be meeting at Whole Foods off of Highway 280. We will be reading through the book Homeward Bound, Building a Christ centered Family on Eternal Principles by Ed Hartman who was the keynote speaker at our foreign missions festival last year. Each chapter is only about 15 pages long & has a few questions at the end which we will use to guide our discussion. If you feel you cannot keep up with the reading, feel free to come and fellowship & pray with us. Our desire is to strengthen our relationships with one another and in our roles as Godly women, wives, & mothers. We are looking forward to having Mary Williamson join us as well in sharing with us all that God has taught her throughout her years of marriage and raising three children. If you have any questions or if you plan to come, please email or call Julie Martin (themartins2@earthlink.net or 874-7863).
SOCIAL (Josh and Kelli Threadcraft, Bethany and Fred Henry)
1. Men's Lunch at Demetri's in Homewood on October 9 at 11:30. Pencil in your lunch break for some good BBQ with the men of Foundations on 10/9!
2. Fall Class Social on the evening of Sunday, October 21 at the Tonsmeire's home. This will be a fun night for our class - we'll have dinner and drinks and childcare is provided at the church starting at 5:15, lasting until 8 pm. Please make your childcare reservation by emailing mlindsey@covpres.com. Marilyn will need names and ages. Nursery for the smaller kids and activity for older kids will be provided. The church has been wonderful to provide a safe and fun place for our children to be while we have our Social. If you would like to make a donation upon drop-off, we know they would appreciate that. Your reservation for the Social is your payment to Bethany Henry or Kelli Threadcraft for $10 per person. This covers all of the food and drinks. This will be our only Social as an entire class for the Fall, so please try and make it. Last year's was a blast - you won't want to miss this one. The Tonsmeire's address is 3468 Water Oak Drive 35243 (thanks in advance for opening up their home for us!) Questions? Contact our fabulous social crew: bethanyhh@charter.net and thethreadcrafts@aol.com
3. Women's Luncheon at Bethany Henry's home on October 15 from 11:15-12:45. Please bring your favorite type of salad to share. We hope this time frame will work well for all of the ladies in our class to have a time to drop by during your lunch break. Bethany's address is: 3425 Water Oak Drive 35243
HOSPITALITY (Cassie and Burgett Tonsmeire):
Last year, our class started a hospitality ministry called Foundations Cares, for members who perhaps have a lot on their plates right now with family, illness, etc and could use an extra meal or two in their freezers. This year, we will take donations via an envelope for cash that the Tonsmeires will use for emergency purposes that arise for our class that might not allow time for an official meal sign up. We will continue to sign up for meals for new babies and other Foundations events; we just thought it would be great to have a fund for the Tonsmeires to be able to provide meals to our class member should emergency circumstances arise. Be on the lookout for the Foundations Cares envelope that will go around in the class folder, should you choose to donate to this cause. All is greatly appreciated for this hospitality ministry!
LOGISITICS (Katherine and Roddy Taylor) :
Many thanks in advance to Carmen and Chris Hussar for providing breakfast this week.
PRAYER REQUESTS:
*contact info for Class Member is listed if you would like to contact them and pray for them*
Julie Martin:
Currently traveling up to PA for her aunt's funeral services. Her parents were able to be with her when she passed away Tuesday morning (which was an answer to her mother's prayer since all the siblings were rotating staying with her and her mom wanted to be the one to be with her when she passed). What Julie desperately covet prayers for is that she and her parents would be clear & beautifully winsome lights for the Lord as most of her aunts/uncles/cousins aren't Christians (thankfully her aunt was). (Julie's contact info is themartins2@earthlink.net)
Katherine Trammell: Has had problems with her eyes for over 10 years. Please pray for healing. ktrammell@me.com/Cell 205 222-7841
Collins Clegg: Starts a new treatment for MS next Monday, October 8. It is the first time she will take something in a pill form and will need to stay at the cardiologist office all day after the first dose. Please pray for success with this new treatment and minimal side effects. collinsclegg@mac.com/cell 205 910-4037
Kate Comini: Son Thomas has broken his wrist and dealing with sitting out on the sidelines at school and sports - he is ready to be back to normal! whitecar670@gmail.com/ cell 205 671-5991
Also on the list was praise for our son, Grayton, who scared us with a trip to Children's Hospital on Friday afternoon after I took him to our pediatrician to check on his eye doing strange movements. Pediatrician ordered a CT scan to see if there was a mass. Thankfully, the test results were normal.
Look forward to seeing everyone on Sunday!
