Foundations News, October 14-20

Praise!

Praise God for a wonderful time for our church body at Alpine last weekend!

MISSIONS:

From Michael and Leslie Brooks, our class Missions Coordinators:
I encourage everyone in the Foundations Class to consider volunteering with the Birmingham Hospitality Network when it comes to Covenant soon.  It provides a unique opportunity for you and your family to serve others who are desperately in need of help.

It's especially fitting that members of our class step up to help with this as most of us have children the same age as many of the families who are served by the BHN. It's a wonderful opportunity to give your children a chance to serve as we'll as show them how blessed they really are.

There are different options to serve (serving food, staying overnight, etc.) - choose the one that best fits our busy schedule. If you choose to stay overnight (in a private church room), feel free to bring one of your children to stay with you as you will be able to leave early enough to get to school the next am.  It's been a great experience for our boys.

Barbara Thompson said that we still need many spots filled. Servers for breakfast, people to prepare and drop off dinners each night (usually two people that can go in together), hosts for dinner (5:30-8 pm -another great thing to do with kids!) as well as overnight hosts. The dates are October 29-Nov. 4  Please email Barbara Thompson if you can serve:  babsfthompson@gmail.com

Please consider signing up by either emailing Barbara or this week in Sunday School - or contact Daniel or me at 447-9144

SOCIAL:

We will have our Fall Class Social on the evening of Sunday, October 21 at the home of Cassie and Burgett Tonsmeire. This will be a fun night for our class - we'll have dinner (BBQ) and drinks and childcare is provided at the church starting at 5:15, lasting until 8 pm.  Please make your childcare reservation by emailing mlindsey@covpres.com. Marilyn will need names and ages. Nursery for the smaller kids and activity for older kids will be provided. Karen Yendle  will be making arrangements for the older kids and they will be in 221. They will not be providing dinner but we will arrange to have the room set up with tables and chairs so that the kids can have a place to eat if anyone wants to bring dinner with  them. TODAY is the last day to make your childcare reservations so that they can have an accurate number to gauge staffing! The church has been wonderful to provide a safe and fun place for our children to be while we have our Social. If you would like to make a donation upon drop-off, we know they would appreciate that.

Your reservation for the Social is your payment to Bethany Henry or Kelli Threadcraft for $10 per person (this covers all food and drinks). Checks can be mailed to them. Bethany Henry: 3425 Water Oak Drive 35243; Kelli Threadcraft: 1991 Ves Trace Circle 35216. Or, you can contact Kelli or Bethany regarding payment on Sunday (they said you could bring your money to them the night of the social or to class -  but if that is the case, please let them know your plans ASAP to allow for proper headcount for food and drinks). This will be our only Social as an entire class for the Fall quarter -last year's was a blast - you won't want to miss this one!  The Tonsmeire's  address is 3468 Water Oak Drive 35243 (thanks in advance for opening up their home for us!)

Questions? Contact Bethany: bethanyhh@charter.net  or Kelli: thethreadcrafts@aol.com. A big thank you to the Henrys and Threadcrafts for making such great plans for our class! The women's luncheon yesterday was so much fun!
