Mission opportunities

Hi Everyone!
While Katherine Turnage is on maternity leave, I am helping her out with all the missions stuff for the holidays. We always do our Christmas brunch and every family brings a shoebox for the Samaritan's Purse organization (check http://www.samaritanspurse.org/index.php/OCC/Pack_A_Shoe_Box/ for details and you will be receiving more info in the mail soon), additionally, the church adopts angels and tries to get the different Sunday school classes to adopt as a class, or individual famlies can adopt as well. However, I have talked to Tara and there are several nursery workers who will need help with Christmas this year and I would love to take care of them first. Those sweet ladies take such good care of our children and are at Covenant working when they could be at their own churches or with their families. I was thinking, we are averaging about 80 people on Sunday mornings, which translates to roughly 40 families represented, so if each family gave one gift plus $5, I think we could really do a lot of good. I know the nursery workers get a bonus, but, I think that money is generally used for bills, car issues, groceries, etc, and does not leave much for Christmas gifts. Anyway, I would love to collect the gifts plus the $5 at Girls Night Out on the 23rd, or, if you can't make it to that event, bring your gifts to Sun school and I will collect them there. Or, call me and I will be happy to pick them up!

If you would rather take an angel that the church has adopted, the info is below and gifts are due on Dec 3rd. Thanks again and e mail me if you have any questions.

The Cornerstone Sunday school class is heading up the Angel Tree efforts at Covenant this year. We have 22 families totaling 50 children to provide for. Will your class consider sponsoring a family (or two)? If you haven't yet planned a Christmas-Time Missions and Mercy event,
here's your chance! With only a few Sundays between now and the holidays, we really need your help. Please let me know if your class would like to adopt an angel(s)!

Thanks so much,
Maggie Shelton

P.S. You will also find a flyer in your Sunday School announcements this week and we will be in the church foyer for the next couple of Sundays for any individuals who want to adopt an angel. Please get the word out to your classes!
